Happy Rush Day

Today is Rush day, 21/12. Cause for celebration!

Year end comic :D Might put some filler after this but this is the last normal one until 2023. This calls for...

BUDEP'S 2022 ALBUM REVIEW!!!

In which I review the best albums of 2022 according to my admittedly outdated music taste.

#5 - Extreme Witchcraft - Eels

Some 90s-esque rock. Not their best work but this album holds up pretty well, a lot better than most modern rock anyways. Lots of really catchy songs indeed.

#4 - A Light for Attracting Attention - The Smile

This is Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood's new band. It's no Atoms for Peace and certainly no Radiohead, but it's got some great Thom vocals. Some really great songs, like The Same and The Smoke, but it lacks that Radiohead punch. The band is older and I guess tamer, but they've definitely still "got it."

#3 - Return of the Dream Canteen - Red Hot Chili Peppers

The newer of the 2 2022 RHCP albums, both of which I liked practically the same. I put this one lower because I felt like the songs were slightly less "rockin'," whatever that means. But just barely. I loved Reach Out, Bella and Bag of Grins.

#2 - Lucifer on the Sofa - Spoon

Loved this album, and some of the songs were absolutely better than RHCP's. The Hardest Cut is now one of Spoon's greatest hard rock songs, and Satellite was incredible. The only reason it didn't get first is simply because there's not enough of it. Not a great reason, I know, but there are 10 songs to RHCP's 17.

#1 - Unlimited Love - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Just barely beat out Spoon. It's a great album with lots of great songs; I loved Black Summer, Poster Child, Veronica and The Heavy Wing. However, this isn't close to the best RHCP album. I'd say this years are on par with The Getaway, but nothing so far has topped Stadium Arcadium.

Honorable Mentions

Truth is a Dimension (Both Invisible and Blinding) - Josh Ritter

I'm a Josh Ritter fan, and I think all of his stuff is great, but some of these songs top a lot of his older work. However, I don't know if I'd call this an album, it consists of four (really good!) medium-length songs. Still worth a listen though!

Earthling - Eddie Vedder

There's no question that Eddie Vedder can sing, and a lot of these songs are incredible. It's just too much pop and not enough rock for my taste.

Dream SMP Songs - CG5

Okay these songs are no longer relevant, but his collaborations are all unironically great songs. Life By the Sea, Muffin and Best Friend are collaborations with people who have no idea what they're doing but hold their own as songs. And of course Lonely King is the best song on the album.

Cruel Country - Wilco

I'm not much of a country fan, but after so much annoying 99% pop modern country music, it's so refreshing to hear some olf fashioned alt-country. There are rock influences as well, but it's safe to say this is a country album.
